I am running for school board to advocate and promote: Student Learning & Success, School Safety, and Financial Equality regarding school fees.
STUDENT LEARNING & SUCCESS
The pandemic has changed the way we look at student learning and the District has done their best to adapt to the challenges they faced during that time and continue to face today. From 2020 to the end of the 2021-22 school year children missed out on so much - school parties, social interactions at lunch and recess, field trips, and so much more. Teachers also struggled with trying to learn a new way of teaching young minds with google classroom and meetings online and trying to find a way to make sure the kids actually learned something at the end of the day without overloading parents with extra work.
Thankfully we are at the end now and much of the fun has returned, but the children still struggle with more than retaining what their teacher told them that day. We need to find a way to provide our teachers and staff with the resources needed to accommodate each child’s needs so we can set them up for success after they leave the District’s halls. I believe that by working with the staff and teachers we can come up with a plan to do just that.
SCHOOL SAFETY
Sadly our children have to grow up in the world of mass shootings and elementary and middle schools have now become the battleground. We need to know that our children will be safe and secure when we drop them off each day. My mission is to make sure that we have proper protocols and policies in place to ensure the safety of our staff and students so the only thing that staff and students need to worry about is their school day.
SCHOOL FEES & FINANCIAL EQUITY
It seems that each year the student school fees get higher and as a mom of two now in school it can be difficult to afford the fees throughout the year. As a household where two parents work, we still had some trouble paying the fees this year with the school. I worry most about the parent who has low to no income, who cannot afford one child’s school fee let alone two or three. If elected, I will look at lowering the school costs to the parents to see if we can lower fees while making sure we are not cutting the budget on teacher or student needs in the classroom.
